Project:   TAKOMA TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS, Washington, D.C.

Client:      District Of Columbia Department Of Transportation                (DDOT)

 

The Takoma Transportation Improvements included the Traffic Signal & Streetlighting Improvement, Life safety, vehicular & pedestrian circulation improvements and general overall upgrade of 14  locations in the District of Columbia. The 14 projects are as follows:

(1)   Intersection of Blair, Cedar St. and 4th St. Revise  the intersection for Safety, mobility, Pedestrian access, Signal/Bus operations.

(2)     Piney Branch & Georgia Ave.: Reconst the interection to provide left turn bays & Upgrade Traffic Signal & Streetlight.

(3)     Blair Rd. @ Piney Branch: Add left turn bay @ eastbound Piney Branch Rd. & upgrade Traffic signal & Streetlights.

(4)     Blair Rd. @ Dahlia St. /5th St.:  Install median/island on S/Bound Blair for right turns into 5th St, and Dahlia Street.

(5)     Blair Rd. @ Aspen Street: Provide left turn lane for W/ Bound traffic @ Blair Rd. & upgrade Traffic Signals.

(6)     North Capitol St. @ Chillum Pl. & Kansas Ave.: Construct sidewalk (6’min.) & improve pedestrian access.

(7)     Aspen St. between Georgia & Blair Rd.: Analyze Aspen St. for the installation of raised bulb-outs.

(8)     Piney Branch Rd. @ Cedar/6th St.: Analyze intersection to provide improved safety for pedestrian & vehicular circulation.

(9)     Blair Rd. Between Piney Branch & Geranium St.: Make ADA accessible, 5’min. S/walk & improve traffic circulation.

(10)   Sandy Spring Rd. between Van Buren & Maple St.:Construct new s/w.

(11)   9th St. between Peabody & Rittenhouse Sts.: Construct s/w to 6’ (min.)

(12)   Van Buren St. between 1st St. & Eastern Ave.: Construct s/w  6’ (min.).

(13)   Maple St. between Sandy Spring and Carroll: New s/w & bike path.

(14)   Eastern Ave. from MD line to Piney Branch Rd.: Extend bike trail.

 

Project:    RESURFACING AND RECONSTR. OF PARKING LOTS, Bethesda, Maryland

Client:      Montgomery County Govt. Dept. of Facilities & Service

 

Description: Commissioned by Montgomery County Government, Department of facilities and Services,

Capitol Engineers, P.C. performed a complete site assessment for the resurfacing and reconstruction of  the parking lots for Fire Houses Nos. 6 and 26, in Bethesda, Maryland. This involved topographic surveys, geotechnical subsurface investigations, pavement designs, utility adjustments, storm water management, sediment and erosion control. The firm was also required to obtain all construction permits and provide post design services. Capitol Engineers, P.C. assisted in the selection of the contractor for the construction and provided continuous construction management services.

 

Project:      RECONSTRUCTION OF 18th STREET, NE. FROM DOUGLAS  STREET TO FRANKLIN STREET N.E. Washington, DC

Client:        DC Department Of Transportation, (IPMA)

Capitol Engineers, P. C. was responsible for he reconstruction of approximately 2 1/2 blocks of  roadway with full depth PCC pavement (10”) depth and upgrade of storm drainage system. The PCC pavement was changed to full depth asphalt at construction. The replacement of existing catch basins with double or triple basins as required, repair/replace PCC sidewalk and install new ADA sidewalk ramps. The scope also includes the upgrade of the street lighting throughout the project. Landscape improvements, erosion and sediment control, maintenance of traffic, pavement markings, specifications and construction cost estimate.  An interesting feature of this project was the “Petition” process involved for the new sidewalk on the west side of 18th Street and the interaction with the ANC. The roadway was 850ft long and 40ft wide.

 

Project:    RECONSTRUCTION OF 18th STREET FROM MASS. AVE. TO FLORIDA Ave. ,N.W. Washington, D.C.

Client:      DC Department Of Tracsportation. (DDOT-IPMA)

Capitol Engineers, P. C. was responsible for the reconstruction of approximately 3,000 LF X40ft wide roadway with full depth asphalt concrete and PCC bus pads, upgrade of storm drainage system & replacement of existing catch basins with double or triple water quality basins as required, repair/replace PCC sidewalks, Install new ADA sidewalk ramps & the installation of new  centralized block parking meters. The scope included the upgrade of the street lighting and traffic signals throughout the project. Tear drop fixtures @ intersections & #16 lighting @ mid block.The scope also included Landscaping improvements, with news trees & planters, improve movement & circulation efficiency &

Pedestrian safety by providing High visibility crosswalks, and  bulb-out at intersections and Bike Lanes. Also Capitol Engineers, replaced the 100 years old water main with 12”diameter ductile water main throughout the project, including new laterals & water meters. Included in the scope of work was 3 power point presentation to the ANC and stakeholders with presentation materials on 24X36 foam board on easles highlighting the new work. The Construction was completed in July 2011.

 

Project:    RECONSTRUCTION OF BENNING ROAD FROM ANACOSTIA AVE. TO 42ND STREET, N.E., Washington, D.C.

Client:      DC Department Of Transportation.(DDOT-IPMA)

Capitol Engineers, P. C. was responsible for the reconstruction of approximately (1) one mile of east and west bound roadway with full depth asphalt concrete and PCC bus pads, upgrade of storm drainage system & replacement of existing catch basins with double or triple basins as required, repair/replace PCC sidewalks, Install new ADA sidewalk ramps.

The scope also includes the upgrade of the street lighting and traffic signals throughout the project. The improvements to the 36th street intersection to allow for traffic  from 36th street to proceed east on Benning Road  & improvements to the Minnesota Avenue intersection to allow for larger turning vehicles into North Bound Minnesota Avenue. Scope also includes Landscaping improvements, erosion and sediment control, Maintenance of traffic, Pavement markings, 2-6 way conduit throughout the project and under the Benning Road viaduct at Minnesota Ave, specifications and construction cost estimates. The project includes approx 2000 ft long 8-lanes roadway with median and 3300 ft. long 40ft. wide  roadway.

 

Project:    RESURFACING OF RHODE ISLAND AVENUE FROM NORTH CAPITOL STREET TO 10TH STREET, N.E., Washington, D.C.

Client:      DC Department Of Transportation. (DDPT-IPMA)

Capitol Engineers, P. C. was responsible for he resurfacing of approximately (1) one mile of north and south bound Rhode Island Avenue with 1”-2” depth asphalt concrete (Superpave) and upgrade of storm drainage system, replacement of existing catch basins with double or triple basins as required, repair/replace PCC sidewalks, PCC bus pads & PCC Base as necessary. Remove/Replace trees and  install new ADA sidewalk ramps. The scope also includes the relocation of street light & traffic signals and painting all poles throughout the project area, also included are landscaping improve -ments, erosion and sediment control, maintenance of traffic, pavement markings, specifications and construction cost estimates.  The project includes approx long 80ft. wide  roadway & 10ft. wide median.

 

 

Project:    SERVICE ROADWAY RECONSTRUCTION, SOUTH CAPITOL STREET  @ “M” STREET, WASHINGTON, D.C.

Client:      DC Depsrtment of Transportation. (DDOT-IPMA)

 

Capitol Engineers, P. C. as prime consultant, completed the design document for the construction of  the northbound and southbound ramps of South Capitol Street Service  Roadways, between  “K” and “N”Streets.  Scope of work consisted of topographic surveys, geotechnical investigation, design of the roadway, which included storm drainage, water line and sanitary sewer  adjustments, and roadway,  pavement alignment, and profile., Grading, Drainage, SWM, Utility Adjustment, Specifications, Construction Cost Estimates and Maintenance of Traffic.

 

 

Project:    RECONSTRUCTION OF HUNTINGTON STREET FROM CONN. AVE. TO 41ST ST. N.W.WASHINGTON, D.C.

Client:      DC Department Of Transportation, (DDOT-IPMA)

 

Capitol Engineers, P. C. provided comprehensive design engineering services for  the reconstruction of Huntington .street, from Connecticut Avenue to 41st Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. The scope of work included roadway design, horizontal and vertical alignment, Topo. Survey Utility Design & utility relocation,  incorporate new catch basins, wheelchair ramps, fire hydrant, landscaping, geotechnical investigation.and Maintenance of Traffic.                                                         

 

Project:    DESIGN/REHABILITATION ORCOLUMBIA PLASA SERVICE ROAD WAY, Washington, D.C.

Client:      LaSalle Partners/USRC, Union Station Washington, D.C.

 

Capitol Engineers, P. C prepared the Feasibility study for roadway improvement, inspection testing, preliminary engineering, cost estimates and recommendations. for the rehabilitation of the Columbus Drive Service Roadway, Union Station, Washington, DC.

The work consisted of the reconstruction of portions of the roadway with asphalt overlay and concrete base, replacement of single catch basis with double basis, replacement of 10” storm sewers with 15” storm drains, adjusting sewer manhole frame  and basin tops, and resurfacing portions of the roadway. In the areas of roadway resurfacing, the work consisted of pavement profiling to a depth  of 1” to 2” , repairing the existing PCC base as needed, and the application of a tack coat and leveling course.

 

 

Project;    RECONSTRUCTION OF EASTERN AVE. FROM CARROLL ST. N.W. TO NORTH CAPITOL ST. North West, Washington, DC.

Client:      DC Department of Transportation. (DDOT-IPMA)

The reconstruction includes Topographic Survey, Soil Analysis, Street Light & Traffic Signal Upgrade, Drainage upgrade, Roadway Design,

Maintenance of Traffic, Specifications & Construction Cost Estimate. The project was approx. 2200 ft long & 40 ft. wide.   Finalize the Cost

Estimate using APPIA ESTIMATOR and the 2005 catalog prices 7 format for the bid package. Also the design of the full depth asphalt

“Superpave” pavement.
